Our partners

Essentially we bring to our partners resources that they do not have. We bring money. We bring leadership support. We bring friendship. We stand alongside effective local leaders and help them do what they are uniquely positioned to do in ways we could never do.

Furaha Community Foundation, Huruma, Kenya

Led by incredible Kenyan leaders and staff, the Furaha Community Centre is a community of hope. This vibrant school of 550 children, grades pre-Kindergarten to class 8, has grown over the past 5 years from just a handful of students being tutored. The year of 2012 brings a new endeavor to begin building a high school for those graduating from class 8 in December of 2011, and a few years down the road, at full maturity, support 150 high school students for classes 9-12.

The school has also grown to be multifaceted in its operation. The children are taught by committed and talented teachers. A team of cooks serve a daily nourishing meal to every child who normally might eat every other day. Good nourishment has improved the children’s health and concentration in school. Eighty percent of the children are orphaned relying on others to care for them. In the event that a child has no guardian or is at risk in his or her living environment, care is provided in a girls and boys safe house.  Everyday every child receives vital friendship, education, physical and spiritual care. Alongside the school, a team of dedicated social workers visit the children and their guardians to bring support as well as helping them fight for justice. Microloans help fund small businesses run by guardians so they can better provide for themselves and the children entrusted to them. An HIV/AIDS clinic also brings support and education to those affected. In this grey intimidating desperate slum where poverty and disease stand alongside crime, addiction and hopelessness, the Furaha Community Centre brings light and life.

Iglesia Buenas Nuevas de Guatemala, Jocotillo, Guatemala

Jocotillo is one of the multitudes of small rural villages in Guatemala that lack most resources. Erwin & Irma Xicol are native to Guatemala, with a few years of study in the U.S. who bring leadership and an expanded vision in the coming year in education, health, and nutrition to the rural villages of Jocotillo, Gallardo, and Santa Marta.  Regarding education, efforts include primary school scholarships for qualified students, tutoring, and computer labs. Health and nutrition elements include training for guardians in the areas of hygiene, family planning, livestock projects, and snacks for students receiving tutoring. And they will continue to provide their popular Chicos Vivos community children’s program which now serves 300 children.

Foundation Bethesda Center, Palma, Haiti

Current work in Haiti is led by Lucson Dervilous, a local Haitian, who studied for 2 years in the U.S. Lucson is an orphan himself, who wanted to come back to his home village in Hinche and surrounding small poor villages in Palma and Jacob to start a school for children who would never have a chance to be educated. In 2010 a school was built which has now grown to three classes, 50% of the children are orphans ranging from Kindergarten to 2nd grade with around 200 students in all. Immediate endeavors include school expansion for the next graduating class, a daily feeding program in school, and a microloan program for guardians to provide better support for the children. Entrepreneurial microloans include such things as goat, pig, chicken, and banana farms all with the goal of becoming more self-sustaining.
