How does When I Grow Up work?

The most important thing we in the West can bring to help children in extreme poverty is friendship, our voice to educate others on global poverty, and financial resources. Our partners in Haiti, Kenya, Mexico, and Guatemala have skills, knowledge, talent and ability – but sometimes lack partners to empower them and bring the essential dollars to make things happen. We formed this non-profit to create a safe and effective route for people wanting to help suffering and struggling children. With vetted and accountable partners your recurring or one-off financial gift can literally save a life.  We are partnering with people who are working where little or no other help is offered. We know these leaders, we visit them and see where the hard earned dollars you give is spent.  When I Grow Up helps make the invisible, visible.  We help make their story, our story.  We bring our voices, minds, time, and resources together to do more.

Can I go on an international short term trip with When I Grow Up?

When I Grow Up does on occasion accommodate people who would like to visit our global partners.  This is done with the keen understanding that we don't go there to build anything or run things for them.  We go to be their friends, share stories, climb this hill together, and just be.  International traveling candidates would also come with the understanding that they would become ambassadors for When I Grow Up and advocates for eradicating poverty.  It would be expected that upon return, ambassadors would then use their voice to create awareness within their circles of influence about how people can make a difference to empower children living in extreme poverty.  It would also be expected that upon return, ambassadors would then help to raise resources in knowledge, skills, and financial donations.  

If someone would like to apply for a more lengthy internship abroad with one of our global partners, we would then link you directly with them to discuss the requirements of that endeavor.

Is When I Grow Up a 501c3 nonprofit?

When I Grow Up is a 501(c)3 nonprofit as determined by the IRS. Our Tax ID number is 51-0657890. Donations received through the mail or online will qualify as charitable giving in your annual tax returns. We will provide suitable tax receipts.

Where does money donated to When I Grow Up go?

When I Grow Up supports the partners that When I Grow Up considers suitable to partner with. Our various partners have shown themselves to be responsible and effective in handling minimal resources and using them to maximize effectiveness. Having shown themselves responsible and faithful with small resources we trust them to bring equal diligence and effectiveness with greater resources. Your donations go to help the programs our partners run. Occasionally we promote a specific need one of our partner’s highlight that is beyond the normal amount they are given to operate with.  Donations primarily go towards offering good health & safety, food, education, and micro-loans.

Can I give any amount to When I Grow Up?

Yes. No amount is too little; no amount is too big. A regular monthly commitment helps us establish a budget that can give our partners some assurance as to what we can help with over a longer period of time. Stability in our help is a high value and regular giving helps us give this to our partners. While this kind of donation is helpful with the needs so great, every donation is appreciated and every donor valued.

What is When I Grow Up’s political stance?

Many of the issues that affect the children we help i.e. poverty, disease, crime, lack of education, etc. overlap with political decisions made by governments at various times in various situations. While When I Grow Up is a nonpartisan organization we sometimes need to speak out about the underlying systemic issues that need to change. At these times we are not supporting one political party over another – we are supporting the children and their need for things to change.

Where is When I Grow Up headquartered?

When I Grow Up is located at 819 W. Parlier Avenue, Reedley CA, USA.  We have graciously been given office space at Redeemer's Church. 

Can I become an ambassador for When I Grow Up in my town/church/office/area?

Yes we are more than happy for When I Grow Up to have others helping us.  Contact deborah@whenigrowup-global.com who will provide the guidelines and values we ask you to hold as you represent When I Grow Up.
